One of the most popular activities in Madrid, the capital city of Spain, is called ‘Bullfighting.’ It has been a part of Spanish culture for centuries. In bullfighting people called ‘toreros and ‘matadors’ fight with a live bull. The toreros do most of the fighting and, ultimately, capture the bull and tie it up. Once it has been caught, the matador joins the fight and kills the bull. Although most toreros and matadors are men, there are some women who also compete in the sport.
Not everyone supports bullfighting in Spain. In fact, about 30% of the population want it to be banned (stopped) completely. What do you think? On your blog tell us whether or not you think that bullfighting should be banned in Spain. Please provide, at least, two reasons to support your decision.
I think that bullfighting should be stopped because the people will get hurt and probably the bull's are getting hurt to.

ReplyDeleteI've never visited Spain and so I don't know how it is that bull-fighting became a national sport there.
Perhaps there are reasons that I can't think of for this being such a traditional sport. However, as you say, I'm not keen on supporting any sport or game that ends with either people or animals being hurt. So I would wish that bull-fighting could end and another activity chosen that allows people to test themselves and their bravery, without involving animals!

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your opinion on bullfighting. I think you are exactly right. Whilst Bullfighting is an ancient tradition in countries like Spain, it is also very risky for the matadors with many being injured, or occasionally dying.
On top of those risks, tens of thousands of bulls per year die due to bullfighting which I think is immensely sad. They are mistreated badly leading up to the fight in order to dull their senses and reactions so the matador will have a significant advantage. This makes it easier for the matador to trick the bull and win the fight.
Whilst it is always important to be respectful of other countries cultures and traditions, it's important that we don't turn a blind eye to animal cruelty for the sake of tradition!
